How To Navigate

The world works differently depending on what you are using, so both are covered below.

On a computer

There are three ways to move yourself throughout the world: click to drag panning, the navigation joystick and teleporting. There are also "quick-link" buttons to bring you to common areas: your saved bookmarks and the list of public, pre-set "hub locations."

Once you've started moving around, you'll likely notice that you are also able to zoom in and out. Zooming in and zooming out allows you to see more or less of what's around, and focus on what people have created. This is especially useful for text-based objects.

You'll also notice user nametags floating around the whiteboard. Your cursor is your name tag on the map. Your mouse movement is updated in real-time, and moves exactly as your mouse does. You'll always know when you cross paths with another member who's online!

Pan Moving: click-to-drag on an empty part of the whiteboard to move. Be sure not to click on an object, or you'll start to move it instead of yourself. You can hold the SHIFT key while you click to drag to ignore objects to avoid this problem.

Joystick Moving: on desktop, you'll notice a button in the top left corner that says "NAVIGATION." Clicking this will open a menu that shows a ball inside a graph — the joystick. Click-and-hold this joystick, and start to drag it in the direction you want to move. The farther out, the faster you will travel.

Teleport Moving: in the same "NAVIGATION" panel, you'll notice a box for both the x and the y axis, as well as a green "Teleport!" button. This allows you to type the x and y axis of where you want to go, and quickly arrive there by clicking the teleport button! Texting and teleporting is not permitted!

On a phone or tablet

You'll also notice user nametags floating around the whiteboard. Your nametag shows your presence on the map. As you move around, your position is updated in real-time and reflects the center of your screen. You'll always know when you cross paths with another member who's online!

Pan Moving: drag one finger across an empty part of the whiteboard to move. Be sure not to start your drag on an object, or you'll start to move it instead of yourself.

Joystick Moving: the navigation joystick is always visible in the bottom center of your toolbar. Touch-and-hold the joystick, and drag it in the direction you want to move. The farther out, the faster you will travel.

Teleport Moving: tap the lightning bolt button in the bottom right of your toolbar to open the teleport popup. Type the x and y coordinates of where you want to go, and tap the teleport button to instantly arrive there! Texting and teleporting is not permitted!

NOTE: another useful means of teleporting is to "JOIN" another online member. In the chat, type /join Username, or tap their name in the list of users to open a "Join on Map" button. This will instantly jump you to their current location, and you will suddenly be right next to each other to collaborate!

Zoom Options: zooming in and out is easy! Pinch two fingers together or spread them apart to zoom. There are also +/- buttons in the bottom left of your toolbar to zoom incrementally, and a sliding track under the joystick which slides back and forth. All of these methods will zoom in and out of the whiteboard.

NOTE: pinching zooms toward your pinch point; using the +/- buttons or the slider zooms toward the center of your screen.

Share Coords: your x/y axis coordinates are updated live, in real-time. "Share Coords" will create a link that jumps to your current coordinates and can be shared across the web. Those with no account will auto-login as a guest. A {click-teleport} button replaces links inside the chat and textnotes.

Copy Coords: this is better for things that happen inside the world which do not need a direct link. If you want to compile a list, or write a blog post that includes static, text-only coordinates to certain things, "159,667x 159,772y" is exactly what you'll copy in plain text. The share link is more powerful!
